Hot off the press!
August 19, 2008
Last year after our wedding, we were contacted by one of the online editors for San Antonio Weddings magazine. She had heard of our wedding and helicopter exit and asked if the magazine could showcase our wedding photos on their website. She also said that we would be in the running to appear in the print version of the magazine which gets published once a year. Well, the verdict is in and although we were not selected to appear in the ‘featured couples’ section of the magazine some of our photos were chosen to appear alongside featured write-ups throughout the magazine. One of our vendors also chose to use our photographs in their advertisement. Our wedding pictures appear in the magazine on 3 different occasions! 1) A story entitled ‘He Takes the Cake’ starts on page 198 and Dustin’s grooms cake is the first photo featured in the article (my cake is in the background
. 2) On page 244 there is a story entitled ‘Fancy Feet’ that describes the new trends in bridal footwear — my wedding shoes are the featured photo! 3) Our photographer’s (JoshFowlerPhotography) photos appear in an ad on page 407 and 2 pictures from our wedding are used (one of me walking down the aisle (one of my favorites!) and one of Dustin’s groomsmen boutonnières)! Our great friends, Vera & Dayton, also had one of their engagement pictures featured on this page (bottom left corner)! We are so excited to have some of photos used in such a widely published magazine. 10 of our wedding photos still appear on the magazine’s website in the ‘Snapshots of my Wedding‘ section. Check them out and then email the magazine telling them you want to see us featured in their next issue! Also on a random note, the magazine has a story about our cake-baker, The Ultimate Cheesecake Bakery, because they made Jenna Bush’s wedding cake (yes, the President’s daughter!) — wow — it’s quite a neat little story if you get your hands on the magazine!
We need some sleep!

Seriously, we’re Olympic fanatics and can’t help but stay up night after night after night to catch the different athletic competitions. We are awed at each unique event (yes, even badminton and skulls!) and love routing for our home-team USA! We love it so much we made 8-8-08 a special ‘stay-at-home date-night’ in order to watch the kick-off. After a scrumptious dinner of grilled chicken, green bean casserole and salad we turned off our phones, locked the doors, closed the blinds and turned off all the lights — then sat on our couch and watched the opening ceremonies. It was WONDROUS – EXCEPTIONAL – FANTASTICAL. And I knew it would be so much so that I made a special desert to celebrate the night. Obviously, my next job will not be as a cake decorator!!
Leaving 29 behind

Well, he did it – Dustin survived his 30th birthday – but I knew he would and I knew he would do it with flair, enthusiasm, spunk and style and that he did! He had a fun-filled week of happy hours and dinners and topped off the celebration with a day at the lake, followed by an intimate dinner with friends, capped with VIP style clubbin’ in downtown SA. After much imbibing and a little bit of dancing, he called an end to his shindig around 4:30am this morning and besides the dull headache he had when he woke up, he’s holding up pretty well! It was great to see his true friends join us in celebrating the truly awesome person he is. Dustin – I love you and I can’t wait to celebrate many more birthdays with you in the future!

I’m seeing stars

Silver Stars that is! Yesterday my friend Lisa and I participated in the Silver Stars 5Kto benefit ‘Nothing but Nets’ – a grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. The race was hot, but great as both Lisa and I blew away our previous 5K times by 8 seconds and 75 seconds respectively!! While we didn’t post the fastest times at the race, we did have a lot of fun and enjoyed supporting such a wonderful organization.
**I PROMISE I wasn’t running in these pictures – it just looks like it!
Our Kids
August 3, 2008
OK, technically they aren’t “ours”, but for the past 6 weeks their parents have trusted us to teach them, nurture them, and protect them each Sunday afternoon and both Dustin and I took the challenge in stride (I know that’s hard for some of you to believe given my past attitude toward children!). Specifically we were tasked with teaching “our kids” water safety and swimming skills. By “our kids” I’m referring to the children we were paired with through Kinetic Kids, a program that enriches the lives of special needs children by creating programs that encourage mobility and activity. The kids in this program wouldn’t otherwise be able to participate in regular sports programs because of mental or physical disabilities. During 2 hours each Sunday we worked with Ian, Tianna, Rachel and Patrick and it’s easy to see from the pictures that bonds were formed and friendships forged. This was our first time volunteering, but it definitely won’t be our last. I think we will be signing up for T-Ball next and can’t wait to see “our kids” again and to meet many more smiling, energetic tots ready to play ball!
